Copper Valley at Copper Mountain
Copper Valley is one of the more distinctive buildings at Copper Mountain, and the reason is simple: it is one of the few here with a common pool. It sits on the west side of the resort at the base of the Pitchfork lift, with direct views of the ski area and the Ten Mile Range, and it was built in 1974, which puts it among the original buildings placed close to the lift. For a buyer who wants a compact base at the mountain with an amenity most Copper buildings do not have, this is a building worth understanding before you compare it to anything else at the resort.

Building type Original Copper condo (1974) |
Location Near the Pitchfork lift |
Ski access Ski-in ski-out via Green Acres |
Best for A compact base with a pool & a rental |
The quick take: Copper Valley is a location-and-amenity play. The units are compact and vary from dated to nicely updated, but two things stand out: a heated outdoor pool and sauna that very few Copper buildings offer, and a spot right at the base of the Pitchfork lift with real ski area views. If a pool matters to you and you want to be on snow quickly, start here.
What Copper Valley is, and who it fits
Copper Valley belongs to the first generation of Copper condos, built in the early 1970s, which means it was placed close to the lift before the newer core filled in. The floor plans are not cookie-cutter. They run from studios up through one- and two-bedrooms, roughly 550 to 920 square feet, and several are corner units with a private balcony, a gas fireplace, and vaulted ceilings on the top floor. That variety is an opportunity. A clever owner can carve real usefulness out of a compact plan, and a top-floor unit with vaulted ceilings lives larger than the square footage suggests.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is a buyer writing off a 1970s building on age alone. At Copper Valley, the age is tied to the two things that matter most here: the location right at the Pitchfork lift, and a common pool that almost nothing else on the mountain has. Plenty of these units have been renovated with newer kitchens, baths, and flooring. The building fits a buyer who wants a straightforward base at the mountain, cares about the pool and the ski access, and is comfortable checking the condition of a specific unit rather than assuming they are all the same.
The honest read: finishes at Copper Valley vary a lot from one unit to the next. Some are original and dated, others are fully updated, and the difference shows up in both price and rental performance. This is not a building where every unit is interchangeable, so condition is the whole game. The upside is that the pool, the sauna, and the Pitchfork lift location come with any unit here. The work is in finding the right one, and that is exactly where having someone walk the specific unit with you pays off.

Location and ski access
Copper Valley sits on the west side of the resort at the base of the Pitchfork lift, with ski-in ski-out access via the Green Acres run. That puts you on snow quickly and gives many units direct views of the ski area and the Ten Mile Range. The building also backs up to Copper Creek golf course, and the Summit County recreation path and Colorado Trail are close by, so it works in summer as well as winter. Center Village, with the main base area and most of the dining, is a short walk away. If you want to be in the walkable core itself, that is a different set of buildings, but for a quieter spot right at a lift with a pool, this location is hard to match at Copper.
Building and amenities
|
Pool, sauna, and access A heated outdoor pool and a common sauna, which is rare at Copper, plus assigned underground parking, ski storage, and on-site management. This is the amenity set that sets Copper Valley apart from most buildings on the mountain. |
Inside the units Compact one- and two-bedroom plans with a few studios, gas fireplaces, and private balconies. Top-floor units add vaulted ceilings. Heat is baseboard natural gas. Several units have been renovated, so condition varies from one to the next. |
Short-term rentals at Copper Valley
Copper Mountain is in unincorporated Summit County, so short-term rental licensing runs through the county rather than a town program. A license does not transfer to you on sale, so you apply as the new owner. A ski-in ski-out unit at a lift base with a pool tends to show well in listings, which can help occupancy, but the numbers still come down to the specific unit and its condition.
Before you rely on rental income from a specific unit, confirm the current requirements on the Copper Mountain short-term rental rules page and read that unit's HOA documents. The rules matter more than any projection.
Copper Valley: pros and things to consider
|
Pros Heated outdoor pool and sauna, which very few Copper buildings have. Ski-in ski-out at the base of the Pitchfork lift with real ski area views. Next to Copper Creek golf and the rec path. Assigned underground parking, ski storage, and on-site management. |
Things to consider This is a 1974 building and condition varies widely from unit to unit, so an original unit and a renovated one are very different buys. Units are compact. Confirm the fee picture and the state of any specific unit before you commit. |
Copper Valley: common questions
Is Copper Valley ski-in ski-out?
Yes. It sits at the base of the Pitchfork lift on the west side of the resort, with ski-in ski-out access via the Green Acres run, so you can get to snow right from the building.
When was Copper Valley built?
It was built in 1974, which makes it one of the earlier buildings at Copper and puts it in a section of the resort that was developed first, close to the lift.
Does Copper Valley have a pool?
Yes. Copper Valley has a heated outdoor pool and a common sauna, which is unusual at Copper Mountain, where most buildings offer only a hot tub. The pool is one of the things that sets this building apart.
What size units does Copper Valley have?
Mostly one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms with a few studios, running roughly 550 to 920 square feet. These are compact units, and several have been updated with newer kitchens and baths, so condition varies from one to the next.
Can I short-term rent a Copper Valley unit?
Copper is unincorporated Summit County, so licensing runs through the county and a license does not transfer to you on sale. Confirm current requirements on the Copper short-term rental rules page and verify the specific unit's HOA position before you rely on rental income.
Where is Copper Valley located?
On the west side of the resort near the base of the Pitchfork lift, next to Copper Creek golf course, with a short walk to Center Village for dining and the main base area.
